The two ways to pay for a medical ride in Georgia
There are two main paths to a non-emergency medical ride in Georgia:
- Medicaid NEMT — a covered benefit arranged through the state's contracted broker, at no cost to eligible members.
- Private-pay — you arrange and pay for the ride directly, with more control over timing and driver choice.
They solve different problems. Here is how each works.
Option 1: Medicaid NEMT (the state broker route)
Georgia Medicaid covers medically necessary transportation for eligible members who have no other way to reach a covered service. The state runs this through a single broker.
How it works:
- One statewide broker. As of April 1, 2026, Verida is the sole broker for all five Georgia regions (North, Atlanta, Central, East, and Southwest). You call the broker to arrange a ride.
- No cost if you qualify. Eligible members are not charged for the trip.
- Book ahead. Non-urgent rides must be requested at least three business days before the appointment. Urgent situations can sometimes be arranged faster.
- The broker decides the details. The broker assigns the lowest-cost mode that meets your medical need, which can be a transit pass, mileage reimbursement, a sedan, a wheelchair van, or a stretcher van. You generally do not choose the specific driver.
- Rides may be shared. It is a shared-ride program, so other members may be in the same vehicle.
Who it fits: Members with active Medicaid coverage, a covered appointment, and no other transportation, who can plan a few business days ahead.

Option 2: Private-pay (MyAmbulex and similar)
